Rummy Nose Tetra – Care Guide

The Rummy Nose Tetra (Hemigrammus bleheri) is celebrated as one of the most beautiful schooling fish in the freshwater hobby. Their striking red head, silver torpedo body, and black-and-white striped tail make them unmistakable. Famous as “aquarium canaries” — their red nose fades when water quality degrades, making them excellent water quality indicators. Spectacular in schools of 10+.

Must be kept in schools of 6+ (ideally 10+) — fewer fish causes stress and faded colouration. Sensitive to ammonia and nitrite — fully cycled tank essential before introduction. Weekly 20–25% water changes with soft, slightly acidic water. Gentle filtration — avoid strong currents.
