Description
White Platinum Lobster (Crayfish) – Care Guide
A stunning freshwater crayfish displaying a distinctive all-white to platinum colouration. Hardy, curious, and entertaining to observe as they explore and rearrange their environment. These “personality” invertebrates are best kept alone or with fast-moving tankmates they cannot catch.
| Temperature | 18–25 °C |
|---|---|
| pH | 6.5–8.0 |
| Hardness | 6–18 dGH (moderately hard water supports shell health) |
| Min. Tank Size | 60 L (15 gal) for one crayfish |
| Care Level | Beginner |
| Temperament | Aggressive toward invertebrates and slow fish; generally avoids fast medium-large fish |
| Diet | Omnivore — sinking pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, occasional bloodworms. Calcium-rich foods support shell health. |
| Compatibility | Best in a species-only setup or with fast-moving fish too large to be caught. Incompatible with shrimp, snails, or slow bottom-dwellers. |
Provide hiding spots (caves, PVC tubes) — crayfish are vulnerable during moulting and must hide during this period. Cuttlebone or calcium-rich foods ensure healthy shell regrowth. Tight-fitting lid essential — skilled escape artists. Weekly 20–25% water changes. Keep one per tank unless in a very large system with multiple territories.
