    Freshwater Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) – Care Guide

    One of the most iconic freshwater fish in the world. Available in a stunning range of colour morphs — Koi, Bulgarian Seal Point, Leopard, Albino Golden Head, Super Black, Longfin — Angelfish from the Amazon Basin bring timeless elegance to any tall planted freshwater aquarium. Despite their delicate appearance they are cichlids with real personalities.

    Min. Tank Size 100 L (26 gal) per pair — tall tanks essential
    Care Level Beginner to Intermediate
    Temperament Peaceful (may become territorial during breeding; may eat very small fish)
    Diet Omnivore — quality flake/pellet, bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae
    Compatibility Larger Tetras, Corydoras, Rasboras, Gouramis, peaceful cichlids. Avoid fin-nippers and very small fish.

    Prefer tall tanks (min. 40 cm depth). Plant densely with Amazon swords and Java fern. Feed twice daily. Pairs spawn on flat surfaces and guard eggs. Weekly 20–25% water changes. Lifespan 8–10 years.
